Golf Clubs Irons
Golf club irons are called such because they have been
traditionally made from metal for the last several centuries. These
clubs are generally for fairway play, but on shorter holes many professionals
can use them as a driver. Most club sets have a range of different irons
from which the golfer can choose.
With most professional golf clubs, irons are of a muscle back design.
These clubs have a completely solid head behind the striking surface.
This facilitates longer hits, but the player must have a very consistent
swing for these clubs to be effective.
For recreational golf clubs, irons are made in a “cavity back”
design. This means that the backside of the club has been hallowed out
to increase the sweet spot of the club. These clubs allow much easier
ball control, but a bit of loss on distance.
